Madison vs Milbank: Game Preview – Battle of the Bulldogs

Madison Bulldogs football (0-1) will take on the Milbank Bulldogs (1-0) in a Battle of the Bulldogs tonight.. All home games this season will be played at the Dan Beacom Track Complex.

It is a matchup that will be against a team that gave Madison their first win last year, taking them down 41-6 on the road. The Bulldogs look to come out on top again this season.

Milbank opened their season last week with a 9-0 win over Beresford. They weren’t able to generate much offense in week one and failed to score double digits.

Senior Quarterback Garrett Mertens leads the way offensively for Milbank. He was all the offense in the opening week. Not too much veteran leadership on this young Bulldog team, who will need many players to step up to get the ball rolling for Milbank.

The Madison offense had its flashes in week one, but the Quarriers were too much to contain. Now the battle is a bit more manageable. Madison utilized both of its talented QB’s – Ben Brooks and Cohen Hahn. It’s going to be a theme for them throughout the season as they explore the arm of Hahn and the hands of Brooks.

On the defense side of the ball is where the issues are. They have the ability to score on offense, but must display they can contain teams defensively. The defense allowed quite a bit of yards in the run game in week one. The Bulldogs of Madison may need to explore loading up the box this week and close up those running lanes.

The action is set to kickoff at 7pm tonight with pregame beginning at 6:30 on AM 1390.
