Madison tops RC Christian, moves on to Class A State Tournament
The Madison Bulldog volleyball team breezed through the first set, then fought from behind to win the next two, in a 3-0 win over Rapid City Christian Tuesday night. The SoDak 16 win sends Madison onto Rapid City next week, and the Class A State Volleyball Tournament.
The Bulldogs opened the match by building up a quick 6 point lead in the 1st set, eventually winning by a score of 25-15. But Rapid City Christian, who was trying to qualify for State for the 2nd year in a row, led for much of set #2. Madison took the lead back late, and won the set 25-19.
The Lady Comets opened the 3rd set by jumping out to a 5 point lead. But, as they had in the 2nd, Madison rallied from behind to take the set 25-22, and qualify for state for the third time in four years.
Abby Brooks and Grace Nelson each led the way with 9 kills. Nelson also added 18 assists. Kendra Leighton had 12 digs and 7 kills. Morgan Anderson picked up kills, and Skyler Sargent 3 aces in the win.
Madison will be #7 seed in next weeks State Tournament, and will take on the #2 seed Dakota Valley in the opening round. Madison lost to the Panthers in 5 sets earlier this season. That match will be the last of the opening round, next Thursday at 7:15pm Central, at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center in Rapid City.
