Madison Lets Lead Slip at Home; Falls to Milbank 65-58
The Madison Bulldogs couldn’t hang on to their lead at home and fall to the Milbank Bulldogs, 65-58.
Madison fell to 8-11 overall after the loss. They maintained a lead for most of the game, but slowly let this slip later in the game when the offense began to slow. A strong effort early with a couple of double digit scoring quarters for a pair of Madison players. Which was the only real spark in the offense all night.
Ben Brooks opened the game dominating and had 10 first quarter points. Then Chuck Callahan did one better and scored 14 of Madison’s 19 second quarter points himself. Madison led by five at halftime with those two combining for 24 of the team’s 35 points. The Madison Bulldogs shot 66.7% from the field in the first half and were 3-5 (60%) on threes.
They cooled down in the second half and Milbank picked up steam. Madison shot just 1-9 (11.1%) from deep after the halftime break. Milbank shot 54.2% from the field in the second half after a slow 35.5% in the first half.
The Milbank Bulldogs committed only nine turnovers in the game and came away with four steals. Joe Shulte led all players in scoring with 28 points on 12-18 (66.7%) from the field. He had two teammates in double digits – Jaxson Wildung had 13 and Gerrett Mertens added 10.
Brooks led the way for Madison with 22 points and Callahan had 21 points. It’s the first game Madison had a pair of players score 20 or more points in the same game this season.
