Madison Falls in Battle of the Bulldogs in OT 37-34 to Milbank

A true “Battle of the Bulldogs” it was indeed between Madison & Milbank this past Friday night, with Milbank emerging victorious 37-34 in OT on the road.

It was Senior Night at the Dan Beacom Track Complex and Milbank played spoiler for the Madison seniors. A solid back and forth between both teams all night long, featuring 775 yards of total offense between the two teams.

Milbank picked up where they left off last week after their 9-0 win over Beresford and even turned it up a notch. They dominated the ground game with 220 yards rushing on 43 carries – led by junior running back Tate Schlueter with 12 carries for 132 yards. Not as impressive through the air, but that’s where Madison shined.

Madison led the game with 309 yards passing – all coming from junior quarterback Ben Brooks going 19-for-28 in the game. He also accounted for four out of five of his teams touchdowns in the game. Three through the air and one rushing.

It was also a massive day for Shane Veenhof, the star sophomore wide receiver for Madison. Finishing with nine receptions for 188 yards, with 112 coming in the first half. To add to the positives for Madison, senior Andrew Comes snatched three interceptions in the game. He had just four all last season.

In the end, Madison couldn’t stop the rush attack and couldn’t take advantage of all its takeaways. So far through two games, they’re giving up 40 points and 296 rushing yards per game.

Madison will look to get back in the win column on Friday when they travel to West Central. Kickoff will be at 7pm with pregame at 6:30pm on AM 1390.
