Lady Bulldogs Let Road Game Slip; Lose to McCook Central/Montrose, 61-56

The Madison Lady Bulldogs had another late comeback bid fall short and they lost on the road to McCook Central/Montrose, 61-56.

Madison falls to 3-15 overall and 1-4 in Region 3A. The Lady Bulldogs were leading for most of this game, but the Fighting Lady Cougars came out firing in the second half. They won the second half 37-25. Madison was leading 31-24 at the half.

It was a spread around scoring effort for MCM. All eight players who scored registered at least six points. Abby Wagner led the way with 12 points, scoring eight in the second half. The Fight Lady Cougars saw 23 free throw attempts in the game, with 16 attempts coming in the second half. They were only able to cash in on 13 of the 23, but kept Madison off balance with the foul trouble.

After losing the third quarter 21-9, Madison attempted to rally. Audrey Nelson and Callie McDermott combined for 16 of Madison’s 19 fourth quarter points in the comeback effort. Nelson led the way for Madison with 20 points and McDermott was close behind with a season-high 17 points. That contest marked back-to-back 20-point games by Nelson and her third in four games.

The Lady Bulldogs now sit in seventh in Region 3A, just .003 behind Dell Rapids in seed points. They’re likely to remain in the seven spot for the Region Tournament, which begins Tuesday.

Next the Lady Bulldogs will round out their regular season with a doubleheader on the road against Dakota Valley.
