It’s a Tie! Cornbelt and Sunshine League split weekend Showdown

The Corn Belt vs. Sunshine League Showdown took place in Parker this weekend. 

Friday’s games began with the Parkston Mudcats out slugging the Salem Cubs 15-13. Salem scored 4 runs in the top of the 6th inning to take a 9-7 lead. But the Mudcats exploded for 8 runs in the bottom half of the inning to take back the lead for good. Kyle Tuschen went 4-for-5 with a double, a homer, and 5 RBI. Luke Loudenburg had two hits and 3 RBI. 

The Colman A’s then picked up a 6-1 win in Friday’s night cap. 

The Crofton Blue Jays started Saturday’s games with a 9-0 win over the Humboldt-Hartford Wood Ducks. 

The Madison Broncos defeated Miller 4-2. Tyler Tappe had the big hit of the game, launching a 3-run homer in the 2nd that put the Broncos up 4-0. Logan Allbee picked up the win, throwing three and a third scoreless innings of relief and striking out seven. 

The Lennox Alpacas won a pair of games for the Cornbelt to wrap up Saturday night. Lennox first took down Mount Vernon 8-3, then built up an 11-0 lead before holding on for a 16-13 win over the Parkston Devil Rays. 

Sunday’s games began with the Platte Killer Tomatoes defeating the Humboldt-Hartford Gamecocks 6-2. Hunter Hewitt hit a 2-run homer for Platte in the win. Ryan Healy led the Gamecocks offense with going 2-for-2 with a walk and a run scored. Travis Gant won the game for Platte, allowing just 4 hits and striking out 9.

Jason Schmidt threw a shutout in Game 2 Sunday, and the Dimock Raptors jumped out to an early lead in a 4-0 win over Dell Rapids PBR. Schmidt scattered 5 hits over 7 innings for the Raptors, while striking out 7. 

In Game 3 Sunday, the Alexandria Angels held on to an early lead in a 6-2 win over the Flandreau Cardinals. The 3rd win of the day for the Sunshine League gave them a 5-4 advantage in the Showdown, heading into the final game. 

The Dell Rapids Mudcats preserved a tie in the Showdown, by scattering 15 hits in a 10-4 win over the Winner/Colome Pheasants.
