Bulldogs Look to Stay Undefeated at Home vs Fliers: Game Preview – Madison vs Flandreau
The Madison Bulldogs (4-3 overall, 2-0 Region 3A) are back in the Madison High School Gym tonight as they host the Flandreau Fliers.
Flandreau
Flandreau (5-3 overall, 0-1 Region 2A) come to town as an interesting team. The Fliers average 52.6 points per game and allow just 48.5 to their opponents. They’ve matched up with a couple of the same opponents as Madison. Those being the likes of Castlewood and Baltic.
The Fliers got by Baltic and kept in close against Castlewood. For Madison, the margins were a bit wider on both ends. The Bulldogs blew out Baltic and were blown out by Castlewood. We’ll see which way the chips fall in this matchup.
Brendan Sheppard serves as the head coach of the Fliers. He is in his ninth season and posts a 121-67 overall record. Going 31-19 in Region 2A in seven of his nine seasons.
Sheppard has a young team full of sophomores and juniors. A decently lengthy roster with all players, but one player being above 5’10”. They spread the ball around very well as a group and have a number of guys who will not be shy shooting it from outside. Though they’re not the most efficient group, they can get hot.
Madison
For Madison, it’s all about playing Bulldog basketball again. Home is a place where they’re comfortable and are 3-0 so far this season at home so this could be the time. After not getting to play their matchup on the road against Vermillion on Tuesday due to weather, the opportunity to get back on track is on their home court.
The Bulldogs are led in scoring by a pair of double digit scorers in Ben Brooks and Andrew Comes. Brooks with 11.6 points per game and Comes with 11. The last two games the offense has failed to reach the 50 point mark.
At home, Madison scores 61.7 points per game. Which is seven points more than their season average. The group has seen a slight change in rotations as of late during the two-game skid. Rotations will be a thing to watch for this group and whether or not they can get back to taking care of the basketball.
Tipoff is set for 7:30pm with pregame beginning at 7:20pm on AM 1390 Dakotas Best.
