Flying Squirrels down Dell Rapids in extra innings

The defending Class A and B State Amatuer baseball Champions squared off on Tuesday, as the Sioux Falls Flying Squirrels and the Dell Rapids Mudcats matched up in a non-league showdown. The Flying Squirrels scored a run in each of the final three innings, for an 8-7 comeback win over the Mudcats in 10 innings. 

Dell Rapids scored four runs in the first inning, thanks to an RBI single from Landon Ruesink, and a 3-run homer from Dalton Lehnen. Kole Zimmerman added a 2-run home run in the 4th that put the Mudcats up 7-1. But the Flying Squirrels comeback started with a run in the 5th innings, and three in the 6th. Dylan Ades’s sacrifice fly in the top of the 9th tied the game at 7, and Trevor Hurley launched the game winning solo home run in the 10th. 

Ty Hoglund finished the game with 3 hits and 2 runs scored for the Mudcats. Mark Abrahamson gave up 5 runs in 7 innings. Dusty Haffeman took the loss for Dell Rapids, allowing 2 runs in relief.

The Mudcats will take on Dell Rapids PBR at 8pm Friday, in the annual “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” night. That game can be heard on Jammin’ Country, F M 103.1
