Merlin “Bumps” Riedel, age 94, passed away suddenly at his home on Wednesday, May 1,
2024.
Memorial service will be at 11 AM on Saturday, May 11 th at St. John Lutheran Church, Ramona
with Pastor Wanda Biel officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 PM on Friday at Rustand-Weiland
Funeral Chapel with a prayer service at 7 PM. Visitation will continue on Saturday one hour
prior to the service. Inurnment will be in the church cemetery. Online guestbook is at

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Bethel Foundation, Children's Care Hospital
School or St. John’s Cemetery, Ramona.
Merlin Allen Riedel was born January 12, 1930 in Concord Township, Lake County, near
Ramona, to Bruno & Marie (Rath) Riedel. He attended country school and graduated from
Ramona High School. Bumps married Beverly Monette on May 28, 1948. They farmed in the
Ramona area until moving to Madison in 1993.
Bumps is survived by his wife, Beverly of Madison; three sons, Richard (Julie) of Centennial,
Colorado, Douglas (Marcia) of Ramona and Daniel (Marilyn) of Ramona; three daughters, Nancy
(Kevin) DeCurtins of Madison, Lynette (Doug) Hessler of Brookings and Donna (Rodney) Jaton of
Nunda; 22 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; one sister,
Carol Jensen of Beaumont, California and brother-in-law, David Monette of Ramona.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Harold; three sisters, Fern Smit, Norma
Finnie, Myrtle Palmer and infant sister Vivian.
