John Michael Rother, 56, of Lake Madison, SD, formerly of Salem, SD passed away at his home on July 24, 2022 surrounded by his family.  A prayer service will be held at 7 pm on Friday, August 5 at Kinzley Funeral Home in Salem, SD. Visitation with family present will begin at 5 pm. There will be a celebration of life in Minnesota at a later date.
John was born on May 16, 1966 to Donald and Sharon (Schouveller) Rother in Edina, MN.  He graduated from Lakeville High School and worked for Northwest Airlines for several years. During that time John married Tanya Jones on August 17, 1996 in Bloomington, MN and together they had two daughters, Hunter and Ciara. They lived in Cloquet, MN and eventually settled on acreage West of Salem, SD in 2006.  There John started his own company, JMR Construction, and eventually brought his talents to JBar Construction where he became passionate about custom-built timber frame buildings.
John loved pheasant hunting and fishing (especially salmon in Alaska). He taught his girls to ride and enjoyed hauling them to their rodeos. He was devoted to his daughters.
John is survived by:  his daughters, Hunter of Montrose, SD and Ciara of Salem, SD; father, Donald of Nisswa, MN; siblings, Susan Rother of Apple Valley, MN, Donald, Jr. (Joy) Rother of Annandale, MN, Patricia (Jamie) Thompson of Hastings, MN and Paul (Tracie) Rother of North Pole, AK; and nieces and nephews, Travis, Trevor, Chelsea, Austin and Paijah.
He was preceded in death by his mother Sharon, Baby brother James and grandparents, Carl and Louise Rother and Jerome and Lorraine Schouveller.
