Jim Woldt

Jim Woldt of Arlington passed away at the age of 93 on August 31, 2022 in the Brookings Hospital after a short battle with COVID. He was born in Canova, South Dakota, on July 28, 1929 to Mildred (Tystad) and Vernon Woldt.  He served in the Navy on the U.S.S. Juneau during the Korean War.

Jim was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary, his son, James Jr., his best friends, Odell Bergheim and Larry Riden, and his parents.  He is survived by his 5 sons – Joe, Mark, Arthur, David and George – and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Jim enjoyed eating steak and potatoes at Cook’s kitchen, driving all over the county in his little red car to visit friends, mowing the grass and helping with the horses at Jenny and Sam’s house, spending money at auctions and shopping pawn shops for good deals on horse tack.  He was rarely seen without his cowboy hat and boots… but he is probably best known for his frequent parade appearances (and for riding all over Arlington) on a fancy little palomino mare named “Missy”.  He was an accomplished cowboy, genuine good guy, and special friend, who loved to share his knowledge and passion for horses with everyone.  The people that truly knew Jim were blessed to have him in their life.  Ride on, Jim.  You will be deeply missed!

Jim is to be buried at the Belleview Cemetery, 22580 – 437^th Ave. near Howard, South Dakota – 10:30 a.m. on Thursday September 8, 2022 – with a small graveside service – officiated by his good friend, Pastor Aaron Olson of Calvary Free Lutheran Church of Arlington, SD.
