Janet Meyers, 69, of Guernsey, WY, formerly of Montrose, SD passed away surrounded by family on April 4, 2022 at Avera Queen of Peace in Mitchell, SD.  Funeral mass will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, April 9 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Montrose.  Visitation with family present will begin at 4 pm on Friday with a celebration of life to begin at 6 pm and a prayer service at 7 pm, all at Kinzley Funeral Home in Salem.

Janet Julia Meyers was born on April 26, 1952 in Sioux Falls, SD to Martin Peter and Venisa Agnes (Henle) Meyers.  She graduated from Montrose High School and went on attend Presentation College.  She received her bachelor’s degree from University of South Dakota and Master’s degree from St. Thomas University in Special Education.  Jan taught in SD, MN, and ND before moving to Gurnsey, WY where she taught Special Education for 34 years.  Over the 34 years, Jan developed strong relationships in both Guernsey and SD as she shared her time between the states.  She was required to move back to SD after a life-changing injury with the goal of returning to her Guernsey family.  Jan doted on all children and always had high expectations of them.

Jan is survived by:  her sisters, Loretta (Lee) Corbin of Montrose, SD, Elaine Meyers of Elgin, NE and Lanita Selleck of Salem, SD; adopted grandson, Chris Bob Olsen of Wyoming; nieces and nephews, Rob (Theresa) Corbin, Laura Bormann, Ann (Chris) Bossman, Chad (Basia) Bormann, Martina (Steve) Castle, James Corbin, Matthew (Tracie) Bormann, Jeffrey Bormann and Melissa Taylor; 23 great nieces and nephews and 25 great-great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother-in-law, Melvin “Butch” Selleck, special friend, Sandy Olsen and several great and great-great nieces and nephews that we know she will be holding in heaven.
