Francis “Hans” Sieverding

Francis J. “Hans” Sieverding, 90, of Humboldt passed away on Friday, April 29, 2022 at Luther Manor in Sioux Falls.  Funeral mass will begin at 10:30 am on Tuesday, May 3, 2022 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Humboldt.  Burial will follow in St. Ann’s Cemetery.  Visitation will begin at 5 pm on Monday with a 6:45 pm rosary followed by a prayer service all at the church.

Francis “Hans” Sieverding was born January 15, 1932 in Iowa to Harvey and Adella (Kueter) Sieverding.  He grew up in the Humboldt area and graduated from Humboldt High School.  He went on to serve his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.  On February 13, 1956 he married Phyllis Kelley.  They remained in the Humboldt area where Hans farmed his whole life. Phyllis passed away in November 2017.

Hans’ true passion in life was his family and farming. Even after officially retiring he continued to help, especially with planting, harvesting, and moving cows from pasture to pasture. He looked forward to those times of the year where he could be out with this sons doing what he loved best.

Hans was an active member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church where he served on the church board.  He was an active member of the William H. Crippen American Legion Post 62 in Humboldt. He also served on the Clear Lake township board and was a director of both the Minnehaha Rural Water board and the Humboldt Farm Mutual Insurance board.

He is survived by: his children, Martin of Menno, Cathy (Bill) Fleischhacker of Hartford, Kenny (Kris) of Humboldt, Don “Duck” (Stacey) of Humboldt, Audrey (Daryl) Henning of Humboldt, and Bob (Laura Mausbach) of Humboldt; fifteen grandchildren, Sam (Spencer) Olson, Sydney Sieverding, Shelby (Seth) Rockafellow, Whitley Sieverding, Cody (Stephanie Coats), Clay and Caden Farmer, Austin Sieverding, Ashlynn (Andrew) Rapp, McKenzie (Tylar) Spoelstra, Connor Henning, Ashley (Joe) O’Kane, Angie (Chris) Graff, and Abbi and Arri Mausbach; 10 great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law Harriet Kelley and Delores (Jim) Fuller as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Hans was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, three siblings, William, Harvey “Bud” and Mary McMahon and infant son, Dennis.
