Joan “Boots” Stamm

Joan “Boots” Stamm, age 85, of Madison, passed away Wednesday, April 10 , 2024 at Avera Heart
Hospital in Sioux Falls.
A graveside service will be 11 AM on Monday, April 15 th at Graceland Cemetery with Rev. Adam Welton
officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 PM on Sunday at Rustand-Weiland Funeral Chapel with a prayer service

Joan Gertrude Stamm was born December 11, 1938 in Milwaukee, WI to Walter & Henrietta (Friedrich)
Schaefer. She graduated from South Division High School-Milwaukee in 1956. She started working at
the Milwaukee Sentinel after high school. On September 21, 1957, she married Robert Stamm. A few
years later, they moved to Rock Falls, WI and began farming. While there, she worked at Frabritech. In
1970, they moved the farm to Alma, WI and not long after that, they moved to Madison in 1975.
While living in Madison, Joan worked as a Green Thumb representative and at Super 8 hotel. She was a
member of the National Farmers Organization, Lake County Aging Alliance and Lake County Democrats
Co-Chair. Joan loved to socialize, read, travel and sew & knit. She loved the special times that she had
with her family, especially with the grand and great-grandchildren.
Joan is survived by her two daughters, Deb Stamm-Gartner of Nunda and Lisa Stamm (Michael Vandyke)
of Chester; two grandchildren, Bob (Becky) Gartner of Ramona and Fred Fedeler of Chester; three great-
grandchildren, Jaden, Katerina & Jaime Gartner and other family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband and sister, Jean “Bunny” Koeller.
