Florence Catherine (Wingen) Stroud (93) of beautiful Salem, SD passed away on Wednesday, March 3rd, 2021 surrounded by the love and prayers of her family and friends.

On Saturday, September 17th, 1927 Florence became the fourth daughter born to Henry and Louise (Stoffel) Wingen on the Salem family farm. Florence went on to graduate from St. Mary’s High School in 1944. After graduating from high school, Florence went on to become the most well-known and kind cashier in the Salem grocery store. Florence enjoyed her interactions with customers and community so much she dedicated over 50 years of her life to this purpose.

Florence met Clifford Stroud and they were married in the St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Monday, August 18th, 1958. Florence and Clifford travelled around the Midwest area for 12 years before Florence moved back to Salem for the rest of her life.

Family came first and was above all else to Florence. She was a fiercely dedicated mother to her three daughters, Jacalyn Watkins, Pam Stroud, and Kim Marie Stroud.

Whether behind the register at the store or next to you in the pew at church, Florence put forth a genuine smile and gave words of kindness to all those around her. The hole left by her absence will be impossible to fill.
