Dean L. Nighbert, age 80, passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at the Legacy Rehab House in Upland, CA. A memorial visitation will be 10:00-11:00 AM, Friday, May 27, 2022, at the Ellsworth Funeral Home in Madison. Inurnment with military honors will follow at the Olson Cemetery near Junius.

Dean was born August 19, 1941, to Roy and Guylene (Olson) Nighbert. He attended the Beadle and Madison schools, worked as a pin setter at the local bowling alley, and was a stock boy at Kraft and Hegg’s Grocery. He joined the Marine Corp in 1959 and served 8 years stationed at San Diego, California; Okinawa, Japan; Morocco, North Africa; Quantico, Virginia; and Vietnam. After he was discharged in 1967, he made his home at Pomona, California, and worked for General Dynamics in security. When Hugh’s Aircraft bought out the company in the 1990’s, he was transferred to Tucson, Arizona, where he worked until his retirement as a fireman/paramedic. Dean was a member of the VFW. He enjoyed his retirement years making frequent trips to Hawaii, South Dakota, California, and fishing trips to Kenora, Ontario, Canada.

Dean is survived by his son David (Karen); four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, Richard (Linda) and Dale; four sisters, Kristie Barry, Marilyn Tyler, Ellen (Dave) Konken, and Susan, one brother-in-law, Scott Nold; and several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are with the Ellsworth Funeral Home in Madison.
