Daniel J. Lunders, 71, of Lead, SD passed away on November 5, 2021 at the VA Black Hills Health Care System in Ft. Meade, SD.  A memorial mass will be held at 1:30 pm on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Salem.

Daniel Joseph Lunders was born on March 20, 1950 to Anthony and Lorene (Scholl) Lunders in Mitchell, SD.  He graduated from St. Mary’s High School.  Dan loved to construct things and always had a handyman’s talent.  An expert in firearms and sharpshooting.  His big passion was serving his country and staying up to date with family.  He was enlisted in the US Army for 2 years and over 27 years in the South Dakota Air National Guard.  He loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events via internet feeds and always wanted to know the status on their bag limits and hunt successes.  Dan was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish.  He was a HuntSAFE educator with the SDGFP and Safari Club International.  Dan also volunteered time and organizing events at the Whitewood Senior Citizen’s Center in Whitewood, SD.

Dan is survived by:  his mother: Lorene Lunders Erikson of Canistota; his sisters: Diane (Jim) Petterson of Emery, Lynn (Jim) Gottlob of Salem, Lori (Terry) Tendler of Sioux Falls, Mary (Rick) Haupt of Spencer; his sons: Travis (Amy) Lunders of Rapid City, Wade (Jennifer) Lunders of Sioux Falls, Chad (Stacia) Lunders of Belle Fourche, Scott (Becca) Lunders of Belle Fourche; his grandchildren: Tanner, Talan, Maleah, Colin, Brinley, Atlea, Deegan, Luke.  He was proceeded in death by his father, Anthony Lunders.
