Cindy Lee Emery was born May 16, 1950 in Sioux Falls to Arlin & Bobbetta (Peters) Emery. She
graduated from Parker High School in 1968. She married her high school sweetheart, Doug Nold, on
September 4, 1970. Cindy did a lot of babysitting at her home after she was married because Doug’s job
moved the family often. She also worked at Extra Touch in Sioux Falls. Before Doug’s retirement, they
bought a home on Lake Madison, where they lived for their remaining years.
Cindy and Doug shared a love for traveling around the world and just sitting quietly to watch the nature
around them. As a young girl, she had a love for horses. Being around horses gave her a calm feeling
and was therapeutic for her soul. As she got older, having horses was difficult because of the moving
around for Doug’s job, so there was a period of time she was away from horses. But that changed after
her cancer diagnosis, she was drawn back to horses for a sense of peace and understanding and once
again, the horses made an impact on her.
In her spare time, Cindy loved spending time with her grandchildren and attending any of their activities
that she could. She loved driving in convertible cars, gardening and was an excellent in the kitchen
cooking and baking for her family.
She is survived by her son-Carter (Jeanie) Nold of Brookings and their children-Elly and Julia; daughter-
Misty (Kevin) Kanta of Sioux Falls and their children-Gabe & Kennady; daughter-Tambi (Ben) White of
Sioux Falls and their children-Presli, Irelynn & Averyl; daughter-Brendee (Pete) Sterbick of Arvada, CO
and their children-Bree & Cael.
