Berdell Christensen

Berdell Harriet Christensen passed way peacefully at Dakota Sun Assisted Living in Volga, SD on August 30, 2022 at the age of 103.

Berdell was born on June 1, 1919 to Delos and Dora Smith.  She grew up and attended school in DeSmet and was an active member of Spring Lake Covenant Church and community.

Berdell married Clarence Christensen on July 24, 1940 in Lake Preston.  After their marriage they lived on various farms and in 1947 they bought a farm and were blessed with three boys, LeRoy, Chuck and Gary.  After the passing of her husband she moved into Arlington where she has been living for the past 38 years.  Throughout her later years, Berdell enjoyed playing cards with her friends and spending time with all of her grands, great grands and even great great grands.  She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Red Hat Group and often attended sporting events watching her grandchildren.  Her children and grand-great-great great grandchildren were the joy and pride of her life.

Berdell is survived by her son Charles (Judy) Christensen of Arlington, SD and their children, Jeff (Gaylene) Christensen, Jami (Brad) Hennrich of Arlington, SD and Jerry (Kris) Christensen of Volga, SD; three other grandchildren, Gary’s son, Rob (Laura) Christensen of Rapid City, SD, LeRoy’s daughter, Julie Christensen of Sioux City, IA, Arden’s son, Danny (Vicki) Christensen of Marion, IA; 15 great-grandchildren an d 17 great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Delos and Dora Smith, husband Clarence, brother Don Smith and his wife Vi, stepson Arden and son’s LeRoy and Gary; grandchildren Brad Christensen (son of Gary) Debbie Christensen (daughter of Arden) and Dale Christensen (son of Arden).

Funeral services for Burdell Christensen will be 10:30 am on Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arlington with burial in the Arlington City Cemetery.  Visitation will be one hour before services in the church on Tuesday.  The Johnson-Henry Funeral Home of Arlington is handing arrangements,.
