Beatrice Krahn, 101, of Arlington died Monday, February 21 at Good Samaritan Care Center in Desmet.

Beatrice Saline Vedvei was born September 9, 1920, to Andrina and Samuel Vedvei on her parent’s farm southwest of Hetland.  She was always proud of her immigrant parents and her Norwegian heritage.  Beatrice attended elementary school at District No. 44 in Denver township and graduated from Hetland High School in 1938.  She attended Eastern State Normal School in Madison and taught schools in Kingsbury County.

She married Ralph Krahn on June 6, 1942, and together enjoyed farming until retiring and moving to Arlington in 1980.  Retirement included traveling on bus tours to 48 states, many hours of volunteering, and a good card game with friends and family.

She enjoyed gardening and canning the fruits and vegetables she had grown.  Bea spent many hours quilting, crocheting, crafting and doing the daily crossword puzzle.  A visit to her apartment always included “a little lunch”! At age 90 Beatrice wrote her autobiography which is available at the Arlington Library.

She is survived by her four children, Virginia (Delbert) Walter of Huron SD, James (Reva) of Sioux Falls SD, Janelle Roth of Dawson, MN, and Audrey (Daniel) Brown of Portage, WI., 10 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren, her brother and sister-in-law Alec and Helen Vedvei, her brother Vernon Vedvei, and her sister-in-law Vicki Krahn as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Beatrice is preceded in death by her parents, husband Ralph, her sister Signe, and six special in-laws.

A celebration of life will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arlington, SD on Saturday February 26 with visitation at 9:00 AM and service at 10:30. Burial will be in the Arlington City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please direct memorials to the Arlington Community Foundation or the charity of your choice.
