Madison Bulldogs Grab First Season Win in Milbank

Wanting to avoid going 0-2, the Madison Bulldogs came out hot against Milbank, winning with a final score of 41-6.

Madison got on the board early after QB Ben Brooks connected with WR Carson Wolf over the middle on their first offensive play for an 82 yard touchdown. Wolf ran in a score not long after to put Madison up 14-0.

RB Bruce Galde then ran in two scores for Madison to extend the Bulldogs lead heading into halftime, 27-0.

After recovering a fumble, Milbank seemed to gain a little momentum, and scored their first, and only, touchdown of the night on a 7 play, 45 yard drive that was capped off by WR Eli Johnson catching a 15 yard touchdown pass from QB Garrett Mertens.

Milbank wasn’t able to add anything else, and struggled offensively overall throughout the game. Madison was able to cruise through the second half, scoring two more touchdowns. One on a rush from RB Joe Gors, and then Brooks added one for himself on the ground as well going for 86 yards.

Brooks finished with 303 total yards, with 127 yards coming on the ground. He also had one passing and one rushing touchdown. Galde rushed for 61 yards on 10 carries. Wolf led Madison in receiving with 3 catches for 127 yards and a touchdown, though WR Shane Veenhoff got a little involved as well catching three for 34 yards.

For Milbank, Aiden Foell became the focal point for their offense, rushing for 128 yards on 33 carries. Mertens rushed for 69 yards on nine carries, while adding only 53 yards through the air. 6/7 of Mertens passes were caught by Johnson, who totaled 53 yards.

The win was also Joe Bundy’s first win as the Bulldog Head Coach.

Madison will return home next week to play West Central.
