Madison and Sioux Falls Christian Both Qualified for SODAK 16

In the Region 3A Semifinals last night, the Sioux Falls Christian Chargers defeated West Central 71-46 and Madison Bulldogs held off the Dell Rapids Quarriers comeback attempt to win 67-60. 

In game one of yesterday’s double-header, SFC had the lead for the entire game. West Central kept it close throughout most of the first quarter, but an alley-oop at the end of the quarter helped the Chargers take momentum into the second as they led 16-10.

The Chargers added 16 more points before halftime to take a 32-16 lead into the break. West Central came out of halftime looking to get back into the game, as Erik Seten had ten points in the third quarter to try to get West Central back into the game.

However, SFC maintained control for the second half, and closed out the game outscoring the Trojans 26-10 in the fourth as they won 71-46. 

Ethan Bruns led the Chargers with 15 points, followed by Britton Mulder’s 13. Seten finished with 19 points for West Central.

In game two of last night’s double-header, the Madison Bulldogs took control of the game early as they started on a nine point scoring run before Dell Rapids scored. Madison led 19-8 after one. 

The Bulldogs continued to add to their in the second quarter, taking a 15 point lead into halftime, up 35-20. 

Madison led by as much as 21 points in the game, but that did not stop Dell Rapids from attempting to comeback. The Quarriers comeback attempt was led by Brayden Pankonen, who struggled in the first half but came alive in the second. 

Pankonen started to make multiple shots from deep, including a big half court shot with 0.4 seconds left to end the third quarter. The Quarriers outscored the Bulldogs 21-14 in the third quarter, making it an eight point game heading into the fourth.

In the final quarter, Dell Rapids got within two points of Madison. However, the Bulldogs, led by Aiden Jensen, closed out the quarter and were able to convert big free throws to get the 67-60 win.

Jensen finished with a team leading 24 points for Madison. Andrew Comes added 23 points, and Ben Brooks had 13.

Pankonen’s efforts in the second half led him to lead the game in scoring with 29 points. 

Both Dell Rapids and West Central’s season have come to a close after their losses in the Region 3A semifinals.
