Large First Inning Helps Lead Madison to Win Over Lennox

It didn’t take long yesterday for the Bulldogs to get out to a large lead as the Madison softball team defeated Lennox 15-2 to advance to the Class A Consolation Championship game.

The Bulldogs piled the runs on early, scoring ten runs in the opening inning with Amanda Vacanti, Karley Lurz, and Evie Lurz each getting doubles and a Ella Malone triple helping the cause.

Lennox scored their first run in the top of the third, but Madison answered with four more of their own in the bottom of the inning to go up 14-1.

Each team scored one more run in the fourth, and with the Orioles unable to score in the fifth, the Bulldogs were able to get the 15-2 win in five innings.

The Bulldogs had 15 total hits and four errors, while the Orioles had one hit and seven errors.

Vacanti again got the start on the mound for Madison, getting the win after allowing one hit and no runs in over two innings. She struck out five and walked one. Vacanti also led the Bulldogs at the plate with four hits and four RBIs along with three runs.

Karley Lurz added three hits, two RBI and two runs and Evie Lurz had two hits, an RBI, and two three runs.

With the win, the Bulldogs move on to the Consolation Championship this afternoon, where they will play Elk Point-Jefferson at 12:30pm.Â
