Hawkes Breaks Madison Pole Vault Record

In the Titan Relays this week, Aaron Hawkes broke the Madison pole vault school record which had stood since 2007.

Prior to breaking the record, the crossbar fell on Hawkes, cutting him above his eye. Once he was cleared to return, he set the new record with a pole vault of 14’9”. 

The previous record was 14’3”, set by Tanner Schuurmans in 2007. 

On top of Hawkes breaking the school record for pole vault, there were 41 personal records for both Madison boys and girls athletes at the Titan Relays.

There were multiple top three finishes between the boys and girls teams for Madison. 

Hawkes’ record breaking pole vault earned him a first place finish for the Bulldogs. Other boys results include a third place finish for Ben Brooks in the triple jump (40′ 10″) and a third place finish in the 4×100 meter relay (team consisting of Caden DeVries, Sutton Bern, Logan Wardner, and Bruce Galde).

Leading the way for the Lady Bulldogs was Audrey Nelson, who placed first in the high jump (5’4”). Nelson was also on the Medley Relay team with Ella Peterreins, Jessie Tappe, and Ellie Keller that finished 2nd. 

Tappe placed second in the 1600 meter run (5:51.05), while Lydia Nelson also finished second in the triple jump (32′ 8″). Peterreins had a third place finish (8’9″) in the pole vault.
