Bundy Ready for First Season as Bulldogs Head Coach

The Madison Bulldogs have a new man leading the football team heading into this upcoming season, with Joe Bundy now the head coach. Bundy is going into his ninth season with Madison after spending the last eight years as an assistant.

Max Hodgen won’t be returning to the sidelines for the Bulldogs this fall, and the news did not come as much of a surprise to first time head coach, Joe Bundy, as Hodgen had been contemplating this move for himself for some time.

For Bundy, this offseason has been exciting for him as he gets situated into his new role and said everything seems to be moving along well. The jump from offensive coordinator to head coach has brought in extra work that maybe he did not realize at first, but he has had the last couple of years to learn and take lessons from Coach Hodgen.

There is a balance new coaches stepping into good situations have to find between maintaining the course of what has worked while also trying to find their own stamp to put on the team, though Bundy doesn’t foresee this being an issue.

Bundy will also have to try and find ways to carry the success the Bulldogs had last year, after going undefeated en route to a state championship, but realizes it is unfair to try and compare this year’s team to last years.

Bulldogs will start their fall camp on August 8th, and with quarterback being the most important position on the field, along with losing star Quarterback Nathan Ricke, Bundy believes he has already identified his starting quarterback for the fall.

Madison will kick-off their season at home on August 26th against Dell Rapids, and even though he has no ego and already feels this team is his team, Bundy says he will probably remember that moment when he is standing on the sidelines for the first time as “Head Coach” for a long time.
