The South Dakota Legislature meets in special session today in Pierre to discuss redistricting in the state.  The state House and Senate have different proposals to consider regarding the new legislative boundaries.  Every year after the census is completed, the state Legislature is constitutionally required to redraw its legislative district boundaries to accommodate shifts in population and ensure equal representation to all South Dakota residents. The boundaries that are drawn will be used then for the next decade of legislative elections, starting with the 2022 contests.

More information on the proposed legislative redistricting maps can be found here.

Legislators in the State House will also meet in special session Tuesday to consider possible impeachment proceedings against state Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg.
