State DOH reports five COVID-19 deaths; decrease in active cases and hospitalizations

The state Department of Health reported five additional COVID-19 deaths on Wednesday, as active cases and the number of people hospitalized continued to trend downward.  As of Wednesday, there were just more than six-thousand active COVID-19 cases statewide and 171 people hospitalized.  Two of the five deaths reported yesterday were from Brookings County.  

Lake County reported 38 active COVID-19 cases on Wednesday and is now listed as having moderate community spread of the virus.  Kingsbury and Brookings counties have substantial community spread, according to the state Department of Health, and McCook, Miner, and Moody still have high community spread.  

The Madison Central School District has moved to a weekly report of COVID-19 activity in the district.  In that report released yesterday, the district had one active COVID-19 case and that was in Madison Elementary School. Â
