The first Lake County candidate has filed nominating petitions for the 2020 election.  Lake County Commissioner Deb Reinicke filed her petitions Thursday with the County Auditor’s Office for re-election to another term on the commission.  Reinicke, a Republican, is one of three county commissioners whose terms are up for election this year. The other commissioners are Roger Hageman and Dennis Slaughter.  County commissioners serve four-year terms. Other county offices up for election this year are the State’s Attorney, Treasurer, and Coroner, who all also serve four-year terms.

There are a number of statewide offices also up for election this year, including members of the state Senate and House of Representatives. So far, one candidate – Randy Gross of Elkton – has filed his nominating petitions with the Secretary of State’s Office for re-election to his District 8 House seat.

The 2020 election will also include the offices of U.S. Senator and U.S. Representative.

The deadline to file nominating petitions for the June primary election is March 31st.

Petitions for the county office elections must be filed with the county Auditor’s Office, while statewide offices must be filed with the Secretary of State’s Office.

The deadline for filing nominating petitions to run as an independent candidate in the general election is April 28th.
