Madison Man Pleads Guilty After Failing to Register as a Sex Offender

A Madison man pleaded guilty Tuesday for failing to register as a sex offender. 29-year old Joseph Michael Smith was arrested on December 19th of last year, after failing to register as a sex offender within 3 days of living at his parents house. Law enforcement discovered he had been living there since that past Thanksgiving.

Smith, who also has pending warrants in Pennington County, faces a maximum sentence of 7 years in prison. Circuit Court Judge Pat Pardy scheduled a sentencing for May 23rd.
