Madison City Commission changes meetings to twice a month

Madison City Commissioners are changing how often they will hold their regular meetings.

On Monday, commissioners discussed amending the city’s ordinance to reflect the change in the frequency of their meetings.  Commissioners voted to amend the city’s current ordinance to change from meeting weekly to two times a month.  The meetings will be held on the first and third Mondays of each month.

Commissioner Kelly Dybdahl supported the move to two meetings per month as well as a possible change in the commission’s meeting times.

City Administrator Jameson Berreth, attending the meeting through Zoom, told commissioners that they could change the days and frequency of their meetings by amending their current ordinance, but that they would need to consider a separate resolution to change the time of the meetings.  He said he could bring a resolution regarding the time of the meetings to commissioners for their consideration during their meeting next week.

Commissioner Adam Shaw, also attending the meeting via Zoom, said he also supported changing to two meetings a month.

Mayor Marshall Dennert asked what would happen if one of the meetings fell on a Monday holiday.  City Attorney David Jencks said that the meeting that week would then be moved to Tuesday like is done currently.

Commissioners approved a motion to amend the city’s ordinance regarding meetings to state that they would be held on the first and third Mondays of the month.  They then approved a motion for first reading of the ordinance as  amended.  Mayor Dennert voted against each of the motions.
