Madison Central School Board approves changes to Back to School plan

The Madison Central School Board has approved a few minor changes to the district’s Back to School plan for the current school year.  The updated plan for the 2021-22 school year was approved in August.  During their meeting Monday, Superintendent Joel Jorgenson told Madison Central School Board members about a few of the changes to the plan that the Back to School Plan committee had recommended.  One of the recommendations includes a change in how the number of active COVID-19 cases will be counted in each of the school buildings.

Jorgenson said cases like this won’t be included as active cases in the district’s running tally.

Jorgenson said that the district will continue to  handle contact tracing of positive COVID-19 cases locally, but another of the recommended changes to the plan includes not filling out workbooks to send to the state Department of Health as he said they’ve found they haven’t done a lot of follow-up using that information.

Jorgenson said there was some discussion on raising the threshold at which a school building would be required to move to a different level, but he said the committee did not decide to do that at this time as the number of active COVID-19 cases in the county continues to rise. Â
