Highway 81 to open north of Madison on Tuesday

The South Dakota Department of Transportation plans to re-open the section of U.S. Highway 81 north of Madison on Tuesday, September 6th.  Highway 81 is opening approximately two weeks ahead of the originally scheduled mid-September date.

The state DOT began this permanent grade raise on Highway 81 north of Madison through the through the Twin Lakes area in April of this year.  The construction project included grading, asphalt surfacing, and guardrail placement.

Drivers can still expect potential delays through the work area, and should stay aware of workers, equipment, and sudden slowing traffic. Flaggers will be utilized for traffic control as some of the final project work is completed in the coming weeks.

The prime contractor for this eight-and-a-half million dollar project is Prairie States Trucking Incorporated of Sioux Falls.
