County awards bid for box culvert project

The Lake County Commission has awarded the bid for a box culvert project to be completed east of Madison.  Commissioners on Tuesday awarded the low bid for the structure on 456th Avenue near Stemper Auto Body to Lehtola Builders, Incorporated of Lake Norden.  The bid was just more than 498-thousand dollars, and the commission’s approval is pending concurrence with the state Department of Transportation.  

The county has been awarded a 2022 replacement Bridge Improvement Grant from the state DOT for the bridge.  The grant is a 70-30 matching grant, with the state’s portion totaling 567-thousand dollars.  

Also on Tuesday, commissioners approved a letter of contract for engineering services with Banner Associates for the box culvert project.  The contract is for the engineering services for the construction phase of the project.  The estimated fees are 66-thousand dollars, with 80-percent of it being reimbursed by the state through the BIG grant.
