Walsdorf Achieves 1,000 Points, Wood Goes Off For Career-High 36, DSU Finishes Weekend With Mayville State

While the Dakota State women’s basketball team hit 20 wins on the season on Saturday, the men’s team dropped their second straight, but still in the race for the top spot of the conference.

Down 12 early in the third quarter, the  DSU women used a 53-point second half for a comeback win against Mayville State, 86-77. Savannah Walsdorf scored 12 points, earning herself a spot on the 1,000-point list for Dakota State women’s basketball. She also grabbed 11 rebounds. Elsie Aslesen dropped 20 points and swatted three shots away for the Trojans. DSU is 20-8 this season and is still sitting at the top of the NSAA at 10-1.

Lamarr Wood’s 36 points against the Comets wasn’t enough for the win, MSU got a 75-63 win over the Trojans. Wood shot 15-for-19 and had three blocks. Berto Gittens dropped a double-double off the bench with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Both Mayville State and Dakota State are 6-5 in North Star contests this season. They’re both tied for third in the conference standings along with Dickinson State.

Both teams have their last home games this weekend. DSU hosts Dickinson State on Friday and Valley City State for Senior Night on Saturday.
