Trojans Win Both Home Volleyball Matches this Weekend

The Dakota State volleyball team won both of their home matches that they played in over the weekend, giving the Trojans a 15-14 overall record on the season and a 5-5 record in the North Star.

In their first match of the weekend, DSU shook off their slow start Friday evening, returning home at DSU Fieldhouse to avenge their early setback with Dickinson State with a 3-0 sweep. The win also helped the Trojans snap a three-match losing streak.

Set scores were 25-23, 25-11, and 25-16.  The Trojans forced the Blue Hawks to 18 attack errors combined in the final two sets of the match. 

Sydney Schell led the Trojans in the match with 11 kills. Maddi Langerock had a double-double after getting 14 assists and 12 digs. Peyton Groft added a match-high 24 digs.

On Saturday, DSU smashed 17 kills in all three sets won, avenging their early NSAA defeat with Valley City State, getting a 3-1 victory. The set scores from the match were 25-17, 25-23, 21-25, and 25-20.

The victory also moved the Trojans into a three-way tie for third place in the NSAA volleyball standings with a 5-5 record each. The Trojans also secured its home court winning record for the fifth consecutive season, racking up 33 home victories in the past five years.

Schell matched her career high for kills in a match after getting 24 kills for Dakota State against Valley City State. 20 digs helped to also give her a double-double.

Madalyn Groft had a double-double against VCSU, registering 28 assists and 13 digs. She also had seven kills for DSU. Langerock also had a double-double again with 27 assists and 14 digs. Peyton Groft once more led the match in digs with 38 for the Trojans.

Dakota State hits the road this weekend as they continue their North Star conference action. They will visit Mayville State on Friday at 6pm before heading to Presentation on Saturday with that match starting at 2:30pm. Â
