Trojans Kickoff Season Today in the Ag Bowl

Today is the season opener for the Dakota State football team, as they will be hosting rival Dakota Wesleyan in the 7th Annual Ag Bowl at Trojan Field.

Getting the season started off is always exciting for coaches and players, with weeks of preparation and practice finally leading up to the first kick-off. When teams get to open their schedule against a rival, it can help to add to the excitement of week one, as Dakota Wesleyan Head Coach Ross Cimpl mentions.

Cimpl’s team is young, with 11 total Sophomore’s starting on both offense and defense, and also a young Freshman Quarterback, Austin Lee, under center. Cimpl does believe though there can be an advantage to having such a young team.

Dakota State has won five straight against Dakota Wesleyan, and they do not intend to start losing to their rival this year. Trojan’s Head Coach, Josh Anderson, did say that he expects to get the best out of DWU though with it consistently being a good matchup.

One of the keys to winning this game, Anderson says, is to take care of the football and take advantage of situations that arise.

The winner will not only be able to hold bragging rights over the other, but will also get to take home the Chamber of Commerce Traveling Trophy as well.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7:05pm tonight, with tailgating starting at 5:30pm. For those unable to make it out to Trojan Field, we will be broadcasting the game live on FM 103.1 or at AmazingMadison.com.
