Trojans in Second Place After Second Day of NSAA Championships

Dakota State claimed an individual title in a school record fashion and added a runner-up honor in the relay on the second day of the 2023 NSAA Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Five-time defending champion Dickinson State holds a commanding lead after the second day, piling up 140 points. Dakota State is second with 60 points, followed by Viterbo third with 54 points. Valley City State is fourth with 32 points, Waldorf fifth with 19 points, Bellevue sixth with 18 points, and Iowa Wesleyan seventh with six points.

The top eight place finishers in each event will earn points toward the team standings.

Fane Sauvakacolo repeated as the conference outdoor triple jump champion by setting a school record of 37 feet, 5 inches for the Trojans. Shaylee DeBeer added a third-place honor after leaping 35 feet, 1.25 inches. Carson Quigley was sixth after producing a career best 33 feet, 1.25 inches. DSU scored a total of 19 points in the triple jump event.

Sauvakacolo clocked a time of 15.84 seconds to place fourth in the 100-meter hurdles for DSU.  DeBeer added a sixth-place finish with a time of 16.22 seconds.

DeBeer registered a time of 1 minute, .88 seconds to finish sixth in the 400-meter dash.  Shakiera Gronenthal was 12th after recording a time of 1:13.10.

The team of Madelyn Sylva, Caitlin Dyer, Saddie Palmquist, and Lindsey Roth earned a runner-up honor in the 4×800-meter relay. They clocked a season best time of 9 minutes, 50.80 seconds, just one second short behind the Blue Hawks who won the relay title in 9 minutes, 49.64 seconds.

DSU’s 4×800-meter relay time is the third fastest time in school history.

Jada Anderson clocked a time of 43 minutes, 56 seconds to earn a fifth-place finish in the 10,000-meter run for the Trojans. Brooke Beaucaire added a time of 47 minutes, 11.92 seconds to place eighth.

Dakota State added 17 points in the hammer throw, led by Britni Plucker with a third-place finish with 145 feet, 3 inches toss. Gabriella Petizmeier followed up with a fourth place after throwing 144 feet, 9 inches and Oliviyah Thornton fifth with a toss of 143 feet, 10 inches.

Traia Hubbard was seventh in the hammer throw with a 136 feet mark. Other DSU hammer throwers’ results included Kiana Mounga – 124 feet, 2 inches and Bella Maxwell – 82 feet, 5 inches.

Lahna Matucha led the Trojans with a tenth-place finish in the javelin throw, hitting 94 feet, 7 inches. Peitzmeier followed up with a throw of 88 feet, Plucker with 83 feet, 6 inches, and Alexis Olson with 69 feet, 6 inches.

Dakota State wraps up the three-day NSAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships today, with the action continuing at 11am.
