Trojans End Two-Game Losing Skid With Home Win

The Dakota State men’s basketball team got back in the win column last night, ending their two-game losing streak after beating the Waldorf Warriors 71-62.

DSU started the game hot, getting out to the early 7-2 lead before Waldorf started a run of their own to get back within one of the Trojans at 12-11. Despite multiple attempts throughout the game, Waldorf never gained the lead over DSU, with the home team leading from the first bucket.

Going into the half, the Trojans held an eight point advantage, leading 30-22. They tried to build on their lead in the second half, leading by as much as 13 points in the half.

Waldorf was able to bring it within four in the final minutes, but DSU closed it out with free-throws to get the 71-62 win against Waldorf, who had beaten the Trojans less than a week earlier.

Deshawn Kelly answered back from scoring only 11 points total last weekend to getting a game lead 22 points last night along with seven rebounds. Chris Morales was strong from the point guard position, getting 16 points, five assists, and four rebounds.

Ronnie Latting had 13 points, six rebounds, and two blocks before fouling out, and Gavyn Strand scored 12 points with four rebounds.

Tyree’on Johnnson of Waldorf recorded a double-double after scoring 19 points and securing 11 rebounds.

The Trojans improved to 9-13 overall and 3-5 in the NSAA, while dropping Waldorf to 6-14 overall and 2-6 in NSAA play. DSU will stay at home this afternoon when they host Viterbo in another rematch from last weekend. Game will start at 5pm and can be heard on FM 103.1 or online at AmazingMadison.com.
