Wrapping up their fall season on the gridiron, the Dakota State Trojans scored 37 unanswered points to win a 37-28 at Mayville State on Thursday night. The host Comets capitalized on opportunities in the first quarter to go up 14-0. DSU began their comeback with a 17 yard touchdown pass from Tyler Tappe to Josh Giles. A 68-yard interception return by Noah Guse tied the game and then DSU would go ahead for good on a 10-yard blocked punt return to lead 21-14. The Trojans would add a safety and short touchdown run before the half to lead 30-14 at the break.

The visitors would increase their lead on the first offense position of the second half as Tappe and Giles hooked up once again. A pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns pulled Mayville State close but DSU was able to make plays late to pick up the win. Dakota State had 18 first downs and finished with 254 yards of offense. The victory moved DSU to 3-5 overall, as they hope to make up a game with the Comets in the spring and maybe a non-conference game or two.
