Schell and Viet for DSU Earn 2022 AVCA-NAIA All-Region Volleyball

The American Volleyball Coaches’ Association (AVCA) announced the women’s volleyball All-Region teams for NAIA women’s volleyball last week, as chosen by the NAIA Selection Committee Friday afternoon. Two Trojans, Sydney Schell and Hannah Viet, were named to AVCA-NAIA North Central All-Region First Team.

Each of the 10 regions named 14 student-athletes to the All-Region team, and eight players earned honorable mention honors.  Each region also selected seven ‘of the year’ award winners.

Both Schell and Viet were named to NSAA Women’s Volleyball All-Conference First Team last month.

Schell led the Trojans with 469 kills (3.6 kills per set) this season, which ranks as the 13th most kills in the NAIA as of Friday. She also had 443 digs (3.4 digs per set) in 2022.

Schell accumulated 789 kills during her career at Dakota State. She is a two-time NSAA All-Conference selection (second team in 2021), as well as NAIA and NSAA scholar-athlete recipient.

Viet was named to the AVCA-NAIA Region First Team for the second straight year. She finished as the third all-time leader for blocks in school history, piling up a total of 365 blocks.

Viet finished the 2022 season with 342 kills (2.6 kills per set) and 150 blocks (1.1 blocks per set) for Dakota State. Her blocks ranked seventh in the NAIA in total blocks as of Friday. She set the second most single season blocks in DSU women’s volleyball history.

She holds the DSU single match school record of 11 blocks during DSU’s home victory over Presentation on September 21st.

Viet is a three-time NSAA All-Conference selection (first team in 2021 and 2022 and second team in 2020), and also an NAIA Women’s Volleyball All-America Honorable Mention recipient in 2021).

Dakota State finished their 2022 season with an overall record of 17-17, recording double digit victories 12 times in the last 13 seasons.Â
