Treshawn Roberts of Dakota State was recently selected as this weeks NSAA Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete-of-the-Week.

Roberts established a new school record in the men’s decathlon in the South Dakota Early Bird Invitational last weekend.

Roberts began the decathlon event on April 7 in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.21 seconds. He followed up with a leap of 21 feet, 1.5 inches in the long jump. The third event of the decathlon was the shot-put, where he tossed 41 feet, 5 inches. He cleared the high jump of 6 feet, 3.25 inches and wrapped up the first day with a personal record time of 52.55 seconds in the 400-meter dash.

He led the decathlon after the first day after racking up 3,566 points for the Trojans.

He followed up with a discus throw toss of 125 feet, 6 inches and cleared the pole vault of 14 feet, 1.25 inches. He concluded the field event in the javelin throw, throwing 176 feet, 2 inches. The decathlon closed with the 1500-meter run, where he finished with a time of 5 minutes, 19.18 seconds.

Roberts accumulated a school record 6,772 points to win the decathlon for Dakota State. He broke the previous school record of 6,411 points set in the Blue Hawks Last Chance last season in Dickinson, ND.

He recorded more than 400 points behind second-place finisher from NCAA Division II South Dakota Mines Travis Kleinsasser.

Roberts leads the NSAA and the NAIA in decathlon. His points total met the NAIA ‘A’ automatic qualifying mark for the national meet, which is scheduled for May 24-26 in Marion, Indiana.

Roberts also posted the top marks in the North Star conference in pole vault and javelin throw.

Dakota State continues their busy April schedule as they get ready for the 2023 Sioux City Relays. First events are set for 12pm on Friday and 9am on Saturday on the campus of Morningside.
