Former Trojan Basketball Coach McDermott Passed Away

Brian McDermott, who coached for the Dakota State Trojans men’s basketball team from 1986-1995, passed away in his home late last week. With the Trojans, he guided them to their first and only final four appearance two years after leading DSU to their first winning season in 23 years during the 1990 season.

McDermott had retired last May from his spot as the Head Coach of the Southern Oregon’s men’s basketball team, where he was at for 26 years, after being diagnosed with cancer.

He was 67 years old, and is survived by his wife Jan, son Josh and daughter Josi.
