DSU Women’s Basketball Losses Their First Game

In their first game of the season, the Dakota State Women’s Basketball team played against Dordt at the Sanford Pentagon and lost 89-68. 

Dordt built a 13-point lead after the first quarter Tuesday evening after going on a 20-7 scoring surge, and they held onto their lead from there in route to defeating Dakota State. The Defenders took a 51-32 lead into the half, and maintained a double-digit lead for the rest of the game.

Courtney Menning led the Trojans in points with 17. She also added three rebounds and three assists. Elsie Aslesen had a team lead of seven rebounds while getting eight points, with Savannah Walsdorf also scoring eight points for the Trojans while grabbing six rebounds. Angela Slattery was second on the team in points scored with nine while grabbing two rebounds as well.  

Dordt shot 46.3 percent from the field (38-of-82 field goals) compared to Dakota State 40 percent (24-of-60 field goals). The Defenders hit 8-of-18 3-pointers, while the Trojans were 6-of-27 3-point field goals.

The Defenders outscored the Trojans 44-34 inside the paint and 17-8 in second chance points.

DSU heads to Seward, Nebraska Friday and Saturday to play in the two-day 23rd annual Cattle Classic, first playing Briar Cliff Friday afternoon at 1pm.
