DSU Track and Field Completed Day One of the NAIA Championships

The Dakota State Indoor Track and Field teams completed day one of the NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Brookings.

In his second national appearance for DSU, Treshawn Roberts started the day with the first event in the heptathlon, finishing in a tie for 13th place in the 60-meter dash at 7.44 seconds. He leaped 6.15 meters in the long jump for 12th, tossed 12.42 meters in the shot put for third, and cleared  1.86 meters (6 feet, 1.25 inches) in the high jump for seventh. Roberts racked up 2,662 points in day one and is currently sixth in the standings. TJ Davis, of Eastern Oregon, is the current leader with 3,000 points. The heptathlon continues this morning with the 60-meter hurdles, pole vault, and 1000-meter run.

The 4 x 800-meter relay team of Joshua Krull, Roger Oliete Tejedor, Evan Slominski and Cody Farland finished with the second fastest time in school history. They finished at 7 minutes, 48 seconds for a fourth place finish in the first heat. After two more heats, DSU fell two places short of qualifying for the national finals.

The Trojans continue with nationals today. Conner Tordsen will participate in the weight throw, Kezley Yeager in the women’s’ 400-meter dash semifinals, Joe Lynch in the high jump, Krull in the 600-meter run, and SenQuavius Johnson in the 60-meter dash semifinals.
