DSU Opens Up NSAA Volleyball Tournament Today

The Dakota State University volleyball team opens their postseason play today in the quarterfinals round of the NSAA Women’s Volleyball Tournament. The third-seeded Trojans (17-16 overall record) face sixth-seeded Presentation (9-21 overall record) with the first serve at 10am.

The Trojans had won the last three quarterfinals matches in past conference tournaments, including the opening round victory over Presentation in last year’s conference tournament.

This year, DSU is 2-0 in matches against Presentation, only allowing the Saints to only win one total set in their two meetings.

The winner of the DSU/PC match will take on No. 2 seed Bellevue (25-6 overall record, No. 14 ranking in the final NAIA Women’s Volleyball Coaches’ Top 25 national poll) in the semifinal round at 5pm.

The Trojans were swept by Bellevue in three sets both times the two teams played each other this season.

Dakota State closed out their regular season schedule with a weekend split, falling short for another upset bid to the conference’s leader, Viterbo, in five sets.

The winner of the NSAA postseason tournament receives the league’s automatic bid to the NAIA Women’s Volleyball National Tournament Opening Round next Saturday, November 19th. The Trojans are seeking to return to the national tournament where they have qualified twice in the past three seasons.
