DSU Men’s Basketball Loses at Home

The Dakota State men’s basketball team hosted Morningside earlier this week, and lost at home to the nationally ranked team 102-76.

Both teams went through 10 ties in the first seven-plus minutes before the Mustangs outscored the Trojans 31-15 in the final ten minutes of the first half, leading 54-37 at the half.

Morningside maintained control for the rest of the game, securing the victory after continuing to roll against DSU, outscoring the Trojans 48-39 in the second half on their way to a 102-76 victory.

The Mustangs were too difficult for the Trojans to handle in large part due to the Mustangs shooting 59.7% from the field.

Ely Doble poured in a game-high 26 points for the Mustangs and had five rebounds. Joey Skoff added 19 points and six rebounds. Aidan Vanderloo scored 17 points off the bench.

Dakota State shot 43.1 percent overall from the field (28-of-65 field goals).  Morningside was 37-of-62 from the field. DSU also only hit 9-of-26 3-pointers compared to MC 8-of-19 from the 3-point line.

Dakota State fell to 5-8 overall record.  Morningside lifted their overall record to 11-3.

The Trojans take their Christmas break before resuming action late next week when they close out their non-conference schedule in the two-day Marriott Classic. Dakota State plays Northwestern on Thursday, December 29th, and Haskell on Friday, December 30th. Both game times are set for 2pm.
