Tickets to District Championship Have Been Punched

The Cornbelt District tournament resumed last night, with two teams moving on in the winners bracket. The Humboldt-Hartford Gamecocks and the Canova Gang both moved on to the District Championship with their wins last night.

The night started off with the Humboldt-Hartford Gamecocks beating the Flandreau Cardinals 8-4, despite the Cardinals getting more hits than the Gamecocks, with ten hits compared to the Gamecocks eight. Even though the Cardinals had four runs in the fifth, the Gamecocks answered back with six of their own, and pulled away from the Cardinals with a strong fifth-inning.

Tuesday night ended with the Canova Gang and the Lennox Alpacas battling it out for the final spot in the Cornbelt District Championship, with the Canova Gang grabbing the upset against the number two seed Lennox Alpacas. After six-innings, it appeared that the Alpacas were on their way to the District Championship. However, a strong eighth-inning from the Gang, getting four runs in the inning, helped them to punch their ticket to the championship, pulling off the upset with a 5-4 victory.

With their wins, both the Gamecocks and Gangs also punched their tickets to the 2022 Class B State Amateur Tournament.

The District Tournament resumes with games tomorrow, Friday, and then the final day of the tournament on Saturday. The championship match between the Gamecocks and the Gang will be played at 6:30pm Saturday evening.
