The 2020 South Dakota State Wrestling Tournament got underway yesterday at the Premier Center in Sioux Falls. Madison Central and many area schools are well represented this year, both on the individual side as well as the return of the team dual competition. Yesterday, Thursday, saw first round and quarterfinal action in the individual tournament and quarterfinals for the team duals. 

Colby Mennis, the two seed at 160, advanced to the semifinals with a pair of falls in his first two matches. Truman Stoller (113) and Sam Olson (120) both picked up wins in the first round but fell in quarterfinal action. For McCook Central/Montrose, the Fighting Cougars had five wrestlers advance into semifinal action: Weston Remmers, Jackson Remmers, Blake Gessner, Jacobi Krouse and Colin Reif all picked up a pair of wins in yesterday’s action. The Howard Tigers had two who moved into semifinal matches: Kieffer Klinkhammer at 132 and Lane Miller at 138. 

On the team dual side, in quarterfinals in Class A, Madison fell to Rapid City Stevens 46-30 and for Class B MCM came up short against Canton 59-22. Action from the State Wrestling Tournament continues today and you can find updates at the Great Western Bank State Sports page.
