Salem Cubs Clinch Final Spot in State Tournament

In the first game of the afternoon on Saturday, there was still one final spot in the Class B State Amateur Tournament left up for grabs, and with their win over Dell Rapids PBR, the Salem Cubs clinched that final spot for the Cornbelt league.

The Cubs started off hot, with a big home run in the first from Brian Duxbury bringing in three total runs. Salem then scored at least one run in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings, extending their lead to 7-0.

PBR struggled to get much going, finally getting their first hit in the third inning, and then had to wait two more innings before getting their second hit. In the final couple innings though, PBR made things interesting, bringing in three runs.

However, Salem’s lead proved to be too large for Dell Rapids, as they were unable to complete the comeback, allowing Salem to advance to states with a 7-3 win.
