Madison/Lennox Advance At District Tournament
It was movement day yesterday at the District 4B Amateur Baseball Tournament in Dell Rapids. With the finals set for Saturday, six teams are fighting for five spots to advance to the State Tournament.
Battling in the lower half of the bracket, the Madison Broncos got a strong pitching performance from Tyler Tappe to defeat the Salem Cubs via a 9-6 win. Tappe went six strong innings, Greg Biagi hit a home run – drove in three runs and Matt Burpee also drove in three for the Broncos. The Cubs were led by Brian Duxbury and Steve Mehlbrech, who both drove in a pair of runs.
Following game one, the Lennox Only One Alpacas rallied for a 9-7 win over the Gamecocks of Hartford/Humboldt. Carver Hultgren picked up the win in relief, Tyler Leisinger drove in three runs on two hits and Reece Ragatz drove in a pair of runs for Lennox.
That sets up our state qualifying games for this evening. Madison and Dell Rapids PBR will match-up at 6pm, followed by Lennox and Dell Rapids Mudcats. The two respective winners punch their tickets to the state tournament, while the other two will have another chance to advance in games tomorrow evening. Action tonight to begin on AM1390 and then FM103. For District 4B results thus far and broadcast schedule, check out the Cornbelt page.
